Rosarium Publishing is a multicultural publisher that specializes in comics and science fiction. In order to remain competitive in the publishing industry, it collaborates with international partners and publishes titles with unique voices. Bill Campbell, author and founder of Rosarium Publishing, shares more about how this is achieved. finding readersAccording to Campbell, one of Rosarium Publishing’s primary challenges is finding interested readers within a small audience. “[We focus on] the more “literary” segments of comics and science fiction. We mainly focus on people who find that kind of approach appealing. There are a lot of people out there, but admittedly, they aren't easy to find.” Campbell states. Optimising ResourcesGiven that Rosarium Publishing is an independent publisher, it must also find ways to optimize its limited resources. According to Campbell, this may be achieved by collaborating with established international partners. “We worked with Italian publisher Francesco Verso to produce an anthology called Future Fiction. We basically took short stories that his company (Future Fiction) published and came up with collection of our own. It was a fantastic experience. I am more than open to doing something like that again.” Campbell explains. Although it aims to produce quality work, Campbell admits that its manuscripts will have flaws that are undetected by its editors. “[Rosarium] looks for manuscripts that are as close to print-ready as possible. There will always be fixes, but I try to cut those down to the minimum.” Campbell states. “[However], no matter how many times you comb through a manuscript, there's going to be a mistake or two. For someone like me, it's hard to cope with that fact.” Campbell explains. publishing quality titlesFinally, Rosarium Publishing operates in a competitive industry, and has to compete against a deluge of new titles. In order to remain competitive, Rosarium Publishing provides its readers with a variety of stories, and it ensures that their authors have unique voices. Furthermore, it collaborates with an international database of writers and artists. “We have published authors and artists from all over the world.” Campbell states. “What we're ultimately looking for are quality and unique voices. I am constantly on the lookout for writers and artists who have their own voices. You don't want to be reminded too much of things that are already out in the world.” He continues. Campbell explains the importance of exposing his readers to global ideas and cultures and ensures that Rosarium Publishing embraces an inclusive culture. “There is a lot of good work out there that Americans are unfamiliar with, and we would like to get them better acquainted. This is a crucial time in our history and it's well past time for all of us to reach out and try to better understand each other.” He explains.
