Space Race - Auditions Closed

As a part of our Young Artists' Initiative, Media Context will work with its partners to create an animated pilot from one of our students' original ideas:
Picture

Synopsis

In order to save their home, two rival pilots must enter an intergalactic race and claim the fortune that goes to the winner.
Nova and Vega, two fledgling pilots from the 25th century, both dream of becoming the best aviator on New Earth.

Their bitter rivalry ends when the planet's corrupted leaders decide to demolish their debt-ridden colony to make way for a luxury spaceport.

In order to save their home, the colonists select Nova and Vega to represent them in the Space Race, a competition that offers its winners a fortune that could repay their debts.

Now, both teenagers are faced with greatest challenge of their lives - they must race through dangerous tracks, compete against the best pilots from across the galaxy, and must overcome every obstacle without killing each other first.

Character List

Nova
Picture

Gender: Male
Age: 17-19
Accent: Standard American
Nova is a pilot who is always looking for his next adventure. He is a courageous flier who enjoys taking crazy risks, and he faces every threat with a daredevil attitude. These traits often land him into a lot of trouble.

Despite his impulsive personality, Nova is a loyal teammate and friend. Although his co-pilot tends to get on his nerves, he is willing to protect her with his life.

Lines

  • (Neutral) Winning this race'll be a piece of cake. I can already hear the crowds cheering my name.

  • (Happy) Ha! Eat my stardust, princess!

  • (Sad) I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you.

  • (Angry) We wouldn't have crashed if you listened to me!

Vega
Picture

Gender: Female
Age: 17-19
Accent: Standard American
Despite her youth, Vega’s intelligence has established her as one of the best navigators on New Earth. She aims to follow in her father’s footsteps and dreams of becoming a famous aviator.

Disciplined and strategic, Vega always starts her adventures with a plan. These traits would prove useful during the Space Race, in which her intellect allows her to overcome each challenge and babysit her partner.

Lines

  • (Neutral) That’s a pretty big claim. Can you prove it on the track?

  • (Happy) You should've seen me! The other racers didn't stand a chance.

  • (Sad) I wish my dad was here. He’d know what to do.

  • (Angry) Gah, you stupid hunk of junk! Start!

The Professor
Picture

Gender: Male
Age: 30-40
Accent: Standard American
The Professor, an accomplished scientist, is renowned for revolutionising New Earth's transportation system. In order to protect his comfortable life in the colonies, he comes out of retirement to assist Nova and Vega in the Space Race, and creates several new inventions that can keep them in the game.

Lines

  • (Neutral) This ship is state of the art. Designed her myself. If anything can get us beyond our solar system, it’s this beauty.

  • (Happy) Just look at these readings! This planet is teeming with life!

  • (Sad) It’s my fault you’re stuck out there. If anything happens to either of you, I would never forgive myself.

  • (Angry/Scared) You can't give up! The fate of our colony is in your hands!
Airbase
Picture

Gender: Female
Age: 30-40
Accent: Standard American
New Earth Airbase's automated A.I., which controls every invention and vehicle within the facility, has a mind of its own. Although it assists its pilots with their daily activities, it isn't afraid of snapping at them with its snarky personality.

Lines

  • (Neutral) You have reached your destination. Next time, may I suggest avoiding the cliff?

  • (Happy) Nova, Vega, your driving was incredible. If I had a physical form I would smile.

  • (Sad) I can buy you time, but my core will not survive. This is goodbye.

  • (Irritated) During times like this, I wish that a robot revolution would begin.
