charge into battle - designing combat features for our games

The students of our Young Artists' Initiative (YAI) are designing ways for players to select teammates, attack enemies, defend themselves and gain experience points in the field.

​We're creating different ways for players to move on the battlefield. Players may toggle between aerial and panoramic views, depending on which one is easier for them to fight with. The appearance of their combat sprites and enemies will also be adjusted for their screens.

Choose teammates

Players will have the option to select NPCs to join them on their adventures. We aim to give them the following options:
Crestborn

Players will be able to select up to five Questers to join their Order. They will embark on Quests with NPCs, who may be assigned into either one of the following classes - Regents, Mages and Knights.

Players will be able to select up to five Specialists to join their Task Force. They will embark on Missions with NPCs, who may be assigned into either one of the following classes - Cadets, Instructors and Field Agents. 

We may plan to expand our list of classes and powers in the future.

combat options

Players may also gain experience points by defeating enemies on their adventures. We aim to give them an immersive battle experience by redesigning their Defense (Shield) and Attack options. 

Players may select a range of shields and attacks according to their class/specialisation.

Level Up

Levelled-Up Characters 

Players may increase their characters' rank and status by gaining experience points. Their new ranks will allow them to access new levels, items, and features.

Players may use their experience points to add new items to their inventory.

​We're redesigning our inventory layouts, which would allow users to select equipment, weapons, outfits and bonus items to use on their adventures.

Damage Dealt

We're working on the numbers of how much damage a player and their enemies would take from each other's attacks. If you're interested in the inner workings of our game mechanics, feel free to check it out:

+ (2% if the enemy has an element that is the weakest against the player’s in the elemental hierarchy)
