Synopsis

A wealthy racer leaves his fortune to the victor of a competition that he has designed.

In the year 3028, the roads are dominated by Apex, a motorist who has obtained a vast fortune by winning multiple high-speed races.

When Apex dies, his benefactor informs the racing community about a clause in his will: With official permission from the city’s authorities, Apex has organised a challenging race across the country, and he will leave his fortune to its victor.

Eighteen-year-old Dex, the son of a racer who was infamous for sabotaging his competitors, jumps on this challenge in hopes of improving his reputation.

Joined by a formidable pit-crew, Dex faces the greatest challenge of his life: He must compete against motorists whose careers were ruined by his father, and who will not hesitate to do the same to him.

Character List

Dex

Picture
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Accent: Standard American is preferred, but not compulsory. You may audition with any accent you choose.
Spirited and bold, Dex is a talented driver who dreams of being a world-class racer.

Dex assumes that his father’s reputation has tarnished his image, and he hopes that winning Apex’s challenge will change his standing in the racing community. Although Dex's ambition is admirable, he tends to play by his own rules instead of the competition’s.

Lines:

  1. (Neutral) Thanks to my father, the racing community has branded me as a villain. This is my chance to prove them wrong.

  2. (Happy) Nice work, Roman! Thanks to your adjustments, this’ll be the fastest vehicle on the track.

  3. (Sad) My mum left me when I was just a kid, and my old man wasn’t the best at being a father. My pit crew showed me how it felt to have a family.

  4. (Angry) What’s your deal, man? If you can’t beat me in a fair race, get off the track!

Cynthia

Picture
Gender: Female
Age: 19
Accent: Standard American is preferred, but not compulsory. You may audition with any accent you choose.
Cynthia, a promising crew chief, directs Dex’s pit crew during his pit stops, and provides him with advice during his races.

As the daughter of a disgraced crew chief, who worked alongside Dex’s father, Cynthia hopes that Dex’s victory in this competition would improve both of their reputations.

Iron-willed and blunt, Cynthia’s gruff personality isn’t easy to tolerate, but she can stand her ground in difficult situations. As the only one in Dex’s pit crew who can defeat him in a challenge, she keeps him in check before he crashes on the track.

Lines:

  1. (Neutral) We’ll need a good mechanic to save that car from the scrapheap. Lucky for us, I know the perfect person for this job.

  2. (Happy) All right, Dex! Three more test laps like that, and we'll be ready for the main event.

  3. (Sad) (Sighs) I know how you feel. Your family’s reputation wasn’t the only one they dragged through the dirt.

  4. (Angry) Shape up, Dex! You’ll never win this race if you drive like that.

Roman

Picture
Gender: Male
Age: 30
Accent: Standard American is preferred, but not compulsory. You may audition with any accent you choose.
Roman, a mechanic in Dex’s pit crew, keeps his vehicle up-and-running, and assists him at his pit stops.

Just like his teammates, Roman is no stranger to shame. His career was dashed when he made a technical error that caused the death of a racer.

Although Roman has little chance of recovering his damaged reputation, he hopes that he can give Dex a decent shot on the track. Compassionate and loyal, he acts like a surrogate father to the members of his team, so much so that his smothering becomes annoying.

Lines:

  1. (Neutral) If you're looking for a better grease monkey, there ain't one. I can make a rust bucket run like a stallion.

  2. (Happy) Took me some time, but I finally found it. This engine will guarantee you first place.

  3. (Sad) I think about it every day. If I hadn’t slacked off as his mechanic, my friend might still be alive.

  4. (Angry) Come on, you metal dunghill! If you sully my rep as a world-class mechanic, I'll send you straight to the crusher!

Unit

Gender: Female
Age: 30
Accent: Standard American is preferred, but not compulsory. You may audition with any accent you choose.
Unit, a hyper-intelligent navigation system, is built into the vehicle that Dex inherited from his unscrupulous father.

Programmed by Dex's dad, Unit gives quality advice when he is on the track. However, it is snarky and condescending whenever he makes a mistake. Moreover, it does not hesitate to insult Dex’s pit crew, as well as his competitors.

Lines:

  1. (Neutral) As an A.I., my range of emotions is limited. However, if you insult my intelligence, you may lose control of your steering device.

  2. (Happy) It will be a pleasure to aid the son of my creator. Please select the weapons you wish to smuggle onto the track.

  3. (Sad) My functions are failing. Once you finish this lap, my system will reset.

  4. (Angry) I’ll repair my engine faster than your deadbeat mechanic can. My lack of appendages will not hinder this task.

Submission Questions

Please ensure that you’ve sent your clips to the right email – admin@mediacontex.com.

Please make sure that you haven’t incorrectly typed “mediacontext”.com instead.

If all else fails, please contact Tiffany at hello@story-sight.com for assistance.

Of course! We keep all of our auditions on record. Even if you aren’t cast for this project, we’ll contact you about future opportunities.

Alternatively, you may contact us at admin@mediacontex.com and tell us what your preferred accent is. We’ll let you know if any VA opportunities come up.

If a character has a "Standard American" accent, we'd like you to use a typical General American accent for all of your lines.

Sorry, friend. Auditions will be closed after the deadline we've listed. However, we'll regularly update our auditions page with new projects, and you won't be short of opportunities.

You're welcome to submit 1-3 takes per line. Compile all of your takes for each line into a single file.

Label each line according to their line number. If there are four lines for your character, you should have four files in total.

Sure. Please separate each character’s lines into separate ZIP folders, and label each file as:

“CharacterName 1_YourName_Audition”

“CharacterName 2_YourName_Audition”

You may include all of your files in the same email. Label your email subject as: "[CharacterName1], [CharacterName 2] _YourName_Audition”

We're always looking for new talent. Feel free to share your demo reel, profile, website, etc. in your audition email.

If you're shortlisted for our roles, you'll hear back from us approximately 1-2 days after the audition deadline has passed.

Please don't hate us if we don't send you a reply. Due to the number of auditions we receive, we may not be able to respond to each email. However, we appreciate your submission, and we hope that you'll continue to support our projects!

Unfortunately, MediaContex's team has a lot on their plate, and we may not be able to deliver feedback to individual VAs. However, we're very grateful to you for reaching out, and we hope that you'll continue to support our projects!

Production Questions

Each project has its own budget, requirements, and plans for distribution. If you are cast for any of these roles, you'll be contacted by our casting representative, and will be able to negotiate your rates with them.

If you are cast, your clips will be used for internal pitching purposes. If you are cast, our students will use your clips to create pilot episodes, which will be showcased to our network of producers.

Your audition clips will not be used without your permission.

If this project generates enough funding and support from our network, we will broadcast our pilot materials to the public. Until then, selected voice actors will be paid for their work, and they will be credited in our internal pitching materials.

We are generating pilot materials for internal pitching purposes, and are currently unable to publicly disclose the cast list.

If we are able to generate enough funding and support to make this project public, we will disclose a full list of our cast and crew. Until then, our cast and crew will be paid for their work, and they will be credited in our internal pitching materials.
